Note that a single system can work at different levels of efficiency depending on the volume, concentration, and duration of the incoming fluvial discharge. HSD’s can be accumulated in the shelf as shelfal sandstone lobes (with associated subaqueous channels), or at inner basin positions as basin-floor fans. Of these deltas, HLD’s have the more extended distribution, since the motion of these weak hyperpycnal flows are aided by waves, tides, and ocean currents.
